"Better ways to tackle exclusion, inequality, and ongoing environmental damage are urgently needed to restore trust and rebuild societal systems."
That's what the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, part of the World Economic Forum, has to say about this year's winners of its annual social innovation awards.
The 16 recipients "are demonstrating that change is possible, and they are achieving remarkable transformations through innovative cooperation," the foundation says in a press release.
They're being honored for their work in education, agriculture, environmental projects, and empowering women in the world's informal economies, among other things, the Guardian reports.
"Their model of inclusive governanceinvolving bottom-up input from groups who face barriers because of gender, race, ability, or economic classgives them an agility that stands in marked contrast to the 'helicopter' approach of many of today's large institutions and companies," the foundation's chair says in the press release.
(This year's winners include the founders of Airbnb.)
